Hi everybody, Dr. Rick here, and we're continuing our theme of highly sensitive people, HSPs. And one of the things that shows up a lot for these people is this particular syndrome, or group of symptoms, called mast cell activation syndrome. I remember a number of years ago I heard about this for the first time and I went, "Huh?" Just like you're probably doing right now. So what is this mass cell activation syndrome, what's it all about? In a nutshell, mass cells are part of your immune system and they're an interface between your nervous system and your immune system. Like no kidding, can you get the impact or the significance of that. I mean it blew my mind when I first read that. I was like there's really this direct connection. These guys talk to each other like that and interact? Yeah, they do which means just like we've been talking about here in Network in this office all the time, your body influences your mind and your mental state and vice versa. So there's that mind -body connection we're always talking about and I'm so thrilled to see that the science is catching up to all these concepts that I was introduced to 30 some years ago. It's pretty cool. But back to mass cell. Mast cell activation syndrome is when those mast cells, which are basically the frontline defenders of your immune system, right, they're designed to take care of any pathogens, toxins, whatever you're exposed to through any particular way that it gets in. So like you would expect, there's a lot of mast cells in your mucus linings, in your intestinal linings, in your skin, any place where your body interfaces with the outside world, a lot of mast cells. Makes sense. Now, these guys in mast cell activation syndrome, they go crazy. They become hyper reactive. Imagine they're like little guards at the castle gates and they let the villagers in with all the produce and the good stuff, right? And then the bad guys come and they try to kill them. It's a good analogy, except in this analogy, the guards at the castle gate, the mass cells, they kill everybody. The villagers, the carts of food, everything. They just kill everybody. They're crazed. It's like they're on crack or something. They're just nuts. Now, unfortunately for these people suffering from this, that means they're hypersensitive to everything. Smells, sounds, light, foods that they eat, toxins in the environment, which are all part of this. Now, you're probably wondering, well, where does this come from? What makes this happen? Underneath it, we found consistently, It usually comes down to two main culprits. Guess what they are? Mold toxicity, Lyme's disease, and its co -infections. Those are the two main things that underneath everything can develop this mast activation syndrome. So, why am I talking about this? It's because there's more and more people suffering from this. And Because the mainstream medical establishment is not too savvy about it yet, a lot of them don't even know that there's this relationship between increased toxicity and mast cell activation. They'll often miss it. And these people will go undiagnosed and suffering sometimes for decades. I just met one yesterday that came into the office. So I want to get the word out if you know of anybody with all these explain weird symptoms or that are really crazy sensitive to things that you would think may not make sense. They have a piece of fruit and they have a reaction or they breathe the air and they have a reaction or they go in the supermarket and they have a reaction. You can see how there's a link up to our last topic which was multiple chemical sensitivities. Unfortunately these two often go hand in hand. I'm going to come back with more information about this soon, but I wanted to introduce the topic to you, so if there's anybody out there that you know or you yourself are suffering from some of these mysterious illnesses or have these seemingly hypersensitivities, reach out, get some help, contact our office. We can probably save you decades of time searching for somebody who actually knows about this stuff. Alright, I look forward to seeing you. 720-570-2500
