The holidays are here, and let’s be honest—they often come with indulgence. Whether it’s too much sugar, a few extra drinks, late-night parties, or just getting caught up in the whirlwind, it’s easy to overdo it. But don’t worry! I’ve got a couple of simple tips to help you recover faster and minimize the toll on your body.
Tip 1: Hydrate

This tip is so simple, you might laugh—but it works. Drink plenty of water. There’s a saying in functional medicine: “The solution for pollution is dilution.” During the holidays, your body needs water to break down sugar, alcohol, and all the other things we tend to consume. Hydration supports your body in processing and eliminating toxins, keeping you feeling better overall.
Here’s a guideline to follow:
  • Drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, aim for 75 ounces of water daily. Staying hydrated helps your body recover faster, so don’t skip this step!
Tip 2: Use Ginger
Ginger is an amazing herb that has been used for centuries, particularly in traditional Chinese medicine—because it works! Ginger helps with digestion, breaking down fats, and removing toxins from your system. It’s a simple, natural way to support your body during the holidays.
You can incorporate ginger into your routine in two forms:
  • Tincture: This is a concentrated liquid form of ginger that’s very effective, though intense.
  • Capsules: These are easy to find at any health food store. Look for clean, organic options to ensure you’re avoiding unnecessary additives.

How Much Ginger Should You Take?
A good dosage depends on your constitution, or how strong your energy (or chi) is. In general:
  • Start with 250 to 500 milligrams per day. Capsules are usually available in this range.
  • If you’re unsure, start low and go slow. Begin with 200 to 250 milligrams per day.
  • Always take ginger with food and see how it feels in your body.
You might notice benefits such as increased energy, a feeling of warmth, or even an uplift in your mood. Ginger is not just effective; it’s also incredibly versatile and easy to add to your wellness routine.
Enjoy the Season Without Guilt
The holidays are meant to be enjoyed, so don’t stress or feel guilty about indulging. With these two simple tips—hydrating and incorporating ginger—you can support your body and bounce back faster. Give them a try and see how they work for you. Here’s to a joyful, healthy holiday season!
