Some of you may remember the jogging craze of the 1970s. One of its main proponents who also wrote a best-selling book about running was Jim Fixx. Ironically, Jim Fixx died of a heart attack at age 52 while running. This puzzled me for a while as I thought exercise, and specifically cardiovascular exercise was good for your heart and longevity. What I now know is that exercise naturally generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), otherwise known as free radicals.

Our bodies are absolutely amazing. Over millions of years of evolution, we have developed the ability to radically and instantaneously change our physiology and neurology to adapt to any immediate stressor. These stressors can come in the form of physical stress (like a car accident or a work out at the gym), emotional stress (loss of a loved one or break up), mental stress (figuring out how you’re going to pay your bills or how you’re going to solve your next challenge at work) and even chemical stress (environmental toxins, bad food, etc.). There is a multidimensional depth of changes that allow the body-mind to meet the demand and once the stress or threat has gone, resume normal physiology and balance. Stress is a normal part of life.
Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) has been credited as the father of the germ theory. Prior to this, infectious disease was considered the result of bad air or an unknown malady. Louis postulated the existence of microbes as the underlying cause of disease. A contemporary and rival of Louis at the time had a different theory. His name was Antoine Bechamp (1816–1908). Antoine proposed that it wasn’t the microbes that were the cause of disease, but the soil that the microbes grew in. In other words, our bodies. All of our current medical practices are based on Louis‘s germ theory. But what if… that was incorrect or a very limited way of looking at it? What if all these years later we got it wrong? The truth is your own body contains more microorganisms than your own biological cells: There are 30,000-40,000 known species of bacteria, 5 million species of Fungi, and 10³¹ Viruses that exist in the air, soil, and ocean respectively. (That’s 10 with 31 zeros after it!) Kinda makes you wonder who you really are, right? One of these particular microbes that is currently at epidemic proportions is called Lyme’s disease. Lyme’s disease is not just one microbe but many. These coinfection’s (Bartonella, Borrelia, Babesia, etc.) often cause as much havoc as the Lyme’s disease itself. Current estimates for Lyme’s prevalence in the United States, are about 300,000 cases per year. The CDC believes this to be vastly under reported as very often there are no signs that you’ve been infected with Lyme’s and the telltale bull’s-eye rash only shows up in about 50% of the people. As our climate continues to warm and the ticks spread further and further north, people are becoming sicker and sicker. Lyme’s disease is very difficult to diagnose and treat. There are things you can do to avoid being bitten by a tick, but going back to the germ theory paradigm shift: wouldn’t it be a better long-term strategy to increase the vitality and balance of your body- mind allowing your immune system to function optimally, thereby taking care of any infections before they actually start? As we explore the underlying causes of disease, I think it is crucial to have an understanding of the assault our bodymind is currently undergoing. The environmental toxins, EMF’s, lack of proper nutrition, exercise, sleep, chronic stress, and so on create the perfect “soil”, for pathogenic microbes to flourish. One viewpoint is that the microbes are there to help us pay attention to what is "not right" in our bodies through the process of pain and disease. If we choose to continue to not listen to these messages the process escalates (gets louder!). Our immune systems are overwhelmed, and in some cases completely hijacked. Perhaps what is most important is the overall health, balance and vitality of your body, mind and spirit, allowing your immune system to function optimally? Scientists like Dr. Zach Bush and others have begun to explore the possibility that maybe we are meant to live in harmony and balance with the microbial world and not be at war with them. To me, it makes sense to optimize your immune system through the harmony and balance of your body mind (nervous system). Your nervous system is primary in this equation along with, nutrition, exercise, sleep, diet, etc. All these things play a factor in your overall health and wellness and your ability to adapt. Remember, care for your nervous system = Network Care! Let’s step away from living in fear of microbes and move towards taking our power back!
Optimizing not only our health, but our very purpose here on this planet. Nearly 60% of adult Americans have at least one chronic disease, 27% have multiple chronic conditions.
Chronic conditions like diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease are the leading causes of death in the United States as of April 18, 2022. This does not include the rapid rise of Dementia and Alzheimer’s as baby boomers move into retirement and onto Medicare. Average life expectancy once debilitated by Alzheimer’s is approximately 10 years, at a cost of over $100,000 per year for palliative care (Not a cure!). It's not hard to imagine a time when health care (Or as it's more accurately put, symptomatic treatment), will bankrupt the economy. Knowing these stats, Should we bury our heads in the sand and pretend this is not happening? No politician, so far, has been willing to stand up and declare these facts. If they did, it would bring about radical change in medicine and our culture. There is too much money to be made off the sick and getting sicker. So what do we do? I am not preaching doom and gloom, quite the contrary. I believe that it is possible to change course and take our power back. The first step is to become informed. Here is a list of the seven most common chronic diseases in the US: 1) Heart Disease 2) Cancer 3) Chronic Lung Disease 4) Stroke 5) Alzheimer’s 6) Diabetes. 7) Chronic kidney disease Most of these diseases are the result of multiple factors, however, there is one thing that connects all of them. The mysterious underlying cause of most chronic disease is called systemic inflammation. Most people are familiar with inflammation in the form of your body’s acute reaction to injury, such as a sprained ankle that swells up. But what if your entire body was stuck in that inflammatory response? What if every organ and tissue in your body was constantly swollen and inflamed, including your brain? Take a look at the conditions listed above and see if you can make that connection. Inflammation is a normal part of your immune response to acute injury or microbial invasion. What makes this a chronic and deadly condition is your immune system is no longer responding appropriately to your external or internal environment. This can manifest as allergies, asthma, food sensitivities, multiple chemical sensitivities, and the list goes on. How many people do you know living with more than one of these conditions? What causes systemic inflammation? There are many factors we have identified that are at the root of this trend of chronic disease in America. Here’s a short list of common factors to help you start to think about your current lifestyle and choices, and what you can do to avoid becoming a statistic.
For now, though, What is a good next step? Work on your Nervous Systems response to stress. Come in for your Network sessions (Entrainments)! So many of us are going along day to day just trying to get by.
Unbeknownst to most, there is a war going on. I’m not just talking about Ukraine, I am talking about the war on your health and your freedom. Some may say this is too radical. Here are some facts and I’ll let you be the judge:
This information is not meant to make you depressed or fatalistic. This information is meant to wake you up to what’s going on. You have my assurance you can do something about it! Stay tuned... What is happening in China right now?
Currently the entire nation of China is on lockdown due to the widespread infectious disease known as the Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV). As of today, Tuesday 2/4/2020 there has been 20,000 reported cases of infection worldwide with 426 deaths so far (see updated stats at the end). This virus originated in Wuhan China but has now currently spread to multiple countries including the US. Numerous countries around the world are closing their borders to anyone who has recently passed through China (which apparently is a lot of people!). This virus is so new that there are many things we do not know about it yet and consequently there is no vaccine currently available. What is a pandemic? A pandemic is an epidemic of disease that has spread across a large region; for instance multiple continents, or even worldwide. (Wikipedia) This has happened numerous times in the past. This current outbreak is being compared to the SARS epidemic that occurred in China in 2002. This pandemic infected over 8000 people and killed 774, spreading to over 26 countries. https://www.history.com/news/sars-outbreak-china-lessons Interesting side note, The Spanish flu (1918) is one of the reasons chiropractic came into widespread use. This was one of the worst pandemics in recent history, infecting 500 million people worldwide and causing 50 million deaths according to the CDC. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/1918-commemoration/1918-pandemic-history.htm It was found that people who receive chiropractic adjustments have a greater resistance and stronger immunity against the Spanish flu. Hence the chiropractic profession was born. How bad is it? The current data shows the mortality rate for this virus is estimated to be between 2.1 and 2.5%. This means that you have roughly a 98% chance of survival should you catch it. Currently authorities in the United States are not considering this a serious threat to the public in this country so far. However the United States has 11 reported cases currently and has closed our borders to travelers from China. So far the experts are not declaring this a global pandemic. The world health organization has declared this a "world health emergency". It is good to put all this into perspective. Again according to the CDC the current Flu season (Yes, the regular Flu, Influenza) has infected 15 million people and caused 8200 deaths so far in the United States alone. https://www.mdmag.com/medical-news/flu-reaches-15-million-americans-in-current-season-cdc-reports It is simply too early to tell how serious this virus is. It is considered a “Novel virus” which means we have never seen anything like this before. One of the things we should all caution against is fear and panic, which will only make the situation much worse. I recommend everyone educate themselves and monitor whatever accurate news they can find. What can we do? The first thing is take care of your immune system: 1) Maximize your Network sessions to help boost your immune system (remember the Spanish flu!) 2) Getting proper nutrition and rest will also boost your immune system 3) Supplement with Vitamin D3. This is known as the “antibiotic vitamin” for its proven ability to boost your innate immunity. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3166406/ Some practical tips from infectious disease experts: 1) Frequent hand washing. This is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of any disease. 2) Facemasks: The Wuhan coronavirus appears to be transmitted through the air via dust particles as well as personal contact. If you are in any risk of being exposed, wear a good mask. The surgical mask that you see many people wearing are not very effective according to the research. An N-95 respiratory mask will block out 95% of any particles. 3) Minimizing contact. Should this get to pandemic stage I would suggest avoiding large groups of people in public spaces. I personally am waiting to see if this virus burns itself out or if this does indeed become a full-blown pandemic. It’s not time to run for the hills yet! Please educate yourself and most of all do not panic. For an alternate perspective check out this link on Dr Mercola's website: articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2020/02/04/novel-coronavirus.aspx What does coherency have to do with all this? As we have discussed in the past, Coherency refers to the coordinated optimization of body and mind, the efficient exchange of energy and information. This allows you to adapt to any potential stress that you might be exposed to. Whether that stress is a dramatic change in your life, physical or emotional trauma, or a virus, we all have the innate ability to adapt, grow, and evolve. In other words, as you optimize the synchronized frequency entrainment between your heart and brain, your body moves out of “fight or flight” and the stress hormones flooding through your bloodstream shift back to a more relaxed and adaptive state. This not only allows your immune system to function more effectively but will also allow you to respond to any future stresses differently and more appropriately. Yours in Health, Dr Rick P.S. Since the writing of this blog there has been a marked increase in the total number of people infected as well as the mortality rate. As of Monday, February 10th the current official numbers are 40,000+ infected and 909 deaths. (Most of these within China.) Condolences to all the families and loved ones who have lost someone to this virus, my heart and prayers go out to you. |
