Diet, Nutrition and Detox

Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.

-Hippocrates

So what’s the deal with food?

Food has been part of our religious, spiritual and mythic traditions as long as there have been human beings. Are we forgetting something?
So many people are eating what they believe to be a healthy diet and yet have not achieved the results that they want. Whether they are trying to achieve weight loss, improved performance, optimal health or even life extension, so many people I talk to are frustrated by their inability to achieve their goals.

What is going on? Certainly there is no shortage of information out there. In fact, so much of this information is seemingly contradictory.
Miracle fad diets and the latest greatest supplements all promise to help you achieve your goals and yet as a nation, the United States ranks 37th according to the World Health Organization in terms of overall health of our citizens, despite spending more on health care than any other country!

So what do we do?

The first thing to realize is that there are multiple factors at work here. As human beings we are incredibly complex. It is hard to establish cause and effect when there are so many variables, and that is just on the physical level. There are also mental, emotional, and spiritual factors to consider.
Despite all this, let's break it down to make things clearer.

Your health is determined by:
  1. Your stress levels
  2. Your toxic load
  3. Your bacterial/ viral load
  4. What you eat/drink
  5. The amount you exercise
  6. Sleep
  7. And to some extent your genetic makeup
Again, this is all just on the physical level. (The mental, emotional, and spiritual factors will all be addressed elsewhere.)

Let’s focus on diet. This information is simplified and condensed from numerous reliable sources.

Healthy Diet (Short)
No processed foods
No refined carbohydrates
No Trans-fats
No Grains
2/3 vegetables (75%) and Fruits (25%)
Ideally the vegetables and fruits are organic
1/3 quality meat
Ideally the meat is grain free with no hormones or antibiotics.
This should be enough to get you started!
These are general guidelines to help you have some idea what to eat.
Please remember that how you eat (your consciousness) is almost as important as what you eat.

Basic nutritional supplements and detoxification are discussed in our blog section.
