What is happening in China right now?
Currently the entire nation of China is on lockdown due to the widespread infectious disease known as the Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV). As of today, Tuesday 2/4/2020 there has been 20,000 reported cases of infection worldwide with 426 deaths so far (see updated stats at the end). This virus originated in Wuhan China but has now currently spread to multiple countries including the US. Numerous countries around the world are closing their borders to anyone who has recently passed through China (which apparently is a lot of people!). This virus is so new that there are many things we do not know about it yet and consequently there is no vaccine currently available. What is a pandemic? A pandemic is an epidemic of disease that has spread across a large region; for instance multiple continents, or even worldwide. (Wikipedia) This has happened numerous times in the past. This current outbreak is being compared to the SARS epidemic that occurred in China in 2002. This pandemic infected over 8000 people and killed 774, spreading to over 26 countries. https://www.history.com/news/sars-outbreak-china-lessons Interesting side note, The Spanish flu (1918) is one of the reasons chiropractic came into widespread use. This was one of the worst pandemics in recent history, infecting 500 million people worldwide and causing 50 million deaths according to the CDC. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/1918-commemoration/1918-pandemic-history.htm It was found that people who receive chiropractic adjustments have a greater resistance and stronger immunity against the Spanish flu. Hence the chiropractic profession was born. How bad is it? The current data shows the mortality rate for this virus is estimated to be between 2.1 and 2.5%. This means that you have roughly a 98% chance of survival should you catch it. Currently authorities in the United States are not considering this a serious threat to the public in this country so far. However the United States has 11 reported cases currently and has closed our borders to travelers from China. So far the experts are not declaring this a global pandemic. The world health organization has declared this a "world health emergency". It is good to put all this into perspective. Again according to the CDC the current Flu season (Yes, the regular Flu, Influenza) has infected 15 million people and caused 8200 deaths so far in the United States alone. https://www.mdmag.com/medical-news/flu-reaches-15-million-americans-in-current-season-cdc-reports It is simply too early to tell how serious this virus is. It is considered a “Novel virus” which means we have never seen anything like this before. One of the things we should all caution against is fear and panic, which will only make the situation much worse. I recommend everyone educate themselves and monitor whatever accurate news they can find. What can we do? The first thing is take care of your immune system: 1) Maximize your Network sessions to help boost your immune system (remember the Spanish flu!) 2) Getting proper nutrition and rest will also boost your immune system 3) Supplement with Vitamin D3. This is known as the “antibiotic vitamin” for its proven ability to boost your innate immunity. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3166406/ Some practical tips from infectious disease experts: 1) Frequent hand washing. This is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of any disease. 2) Facemasks: The Wuhan coronavirus appears to be transmitted through the air via dust particles as well as personal contact. If you are in any risk of being exposed, wear a good mask. The surgical mask that you see many people wearing are not very effective according to the research. An N-95 respiratory mask will block out 95% of any particles. 3) Minimizing contact. Should this get to pandemic stage I would suggest avoiding large groups of people in public spaces. I personally am waiting to see if this virus burns itself out or if this does indeed become a full-blown pandemic. It’s not time to run for the hills yet! Please educate yourself and most of all do not panic. For an alternate perspective check out this link on Dr Mercola's website: articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2020/02/04/novel-coronavirus.aspx What does coherency have to do with all this? As we have discussed in the past, Coherency refers to the coordinated optimization of body and mind, the efficient exchange of energy and information. This allows you to adapt to any potential stress that you might be exposed to. Whether that stress is a dramatic change in your life, physical or emotional trauma, or a virus, we all have the innate ability to adapt, grow, and evolve. In other words, as you optimize the synchronized frequency entrainment between your heart and brain, your body moves out of “fight or flight” and the stress hormones flooding through your bloodstream shift back to a more relaxed and adaptive state. This not only allows your immune system to function more effectively but will also allow you to respond to any future stresses differently and more appropriately. Yours in Health, Dr Rick P.S. Since the writing of this blog there has been a marked increase in the total number of people infected as well as the mortality rate. As of Monday, February 10th the current official numbers are 40,000+ infected and 909 deaths. (Most of these within China.) Condolences to all the families and loved ones who have lost someone to this virus, my heart and prayers go out to you.
