It’s the New Year! Can you believe that its 2019? Many people make New Year's resolutions. Very often they fail. I thought it would be illuminating to explore this and give people some clues about why they might be failing and how they can actually succeed. One of the things that have been drilled into me over and over again by so many different teachers is, “Where you put your attention is what you create.” Or as Donald Epstein would say, “Where the attention goes the energy flows”.
Let’s say you want to lose weight for the new year. If you’re focusing on counting calories and losing weight you’re actually focusing on what you don’t want, i.e. the extra weight. This is a negative focus. If you focus on something you don’t want you are going to get more of it! I’m suggesting that instead of focusing on the negative, focus on what you really want. What is it that sparks joy in your life? What makes you feel excited inside and happy? You don’t need to have it all figured out, you just need to take a minute and check in with yourself and say “Well, OK, I’m here on planet earth again for 2019. It’s a brand new year. What do I want to do with my life? What do I want to create, what do I want to have fun with? What do I want to give back?” Just that focus will start to bring on incredible things. There’s a show on Netflix right now featuring Marie Kondo about “Tidying” and organization. She asks the participants what items “Spark Joy.” I thought wow, how amazing that you could focus on what it is you want to create in your life and bring it into organizing, your decor and how you want to live your life. Wouldn’t it be amazing to actually make life simpler and more aligned with what it is you really want to be and what you really want to create? So that’s part of the message. Instead of focusing on the negative, let’s help you focus on the positive. Move towards what you want instead of moving away from what you do not. (Love vs. Fear) Now, wouldn’t it be cool if there was a way that we could help you connect with that “spark of joy” inside yourself? It’s always there. It’s just buried beneath all the negative things that we believe about ourselves. Network Spinal Analysis, Network Spinal, Somato Respiratory Integration and this office, in particular, are focused on helping you connect with the source, Who You Really Are! Release the stress and trauma from your nervous system that is covering up that spark of joy. We all have it. Do you remember being a child? Just watch kids, they get the most excitement out of seeing a snowflake or a cow like it’s the first time ever and they’re totally captivated! Where did we lose that? Part of the journey is reclaiming that innocence, that excitement, and joy of life. Focus on what you want to create. Sit down every day and visualize it. Put up little reminders whether they’re phrases or pictures or quotes, anything that really sparks joy in you, and then actively start seeking it! Start to make different choices, to do different things that spark joy. You don’t have to have the whole thing figured out, you just need to keep stepping into things that give you excitement and joy. You’ll notice that if your goal is to lose weight but your focus is on “I want to feel alive and vibrant.” You will naturally make different choices. Maybe you will take a new dance class because “I want to feel freedom in my body”. You’ll lose the weight without even trying to because you’re going to start to move towards what you want. You’re just going to start living with more joy, which believe it or not, will totally change your metabolism. We go about things a little different in this culture and I think it’s kind of backward. So let’s try focusing on what you want and see what happens!
